Most Muslims

Understand most muslims: what the measure counts, how to read it and where to check the source.

Religious affiliation and religious practice are different things. A person may identify with a tradition without attending services or holding every belief associated with it. Totals also tell a different story from shares: a large country can have more members of a religion even when that religion is a minority. Changes over time need comparable definitions and dates.

About the data

Muslims/Christians use total people; Buddhists and affiliation use population share. Decline compares unaffiliated shares in 2010 and 2020. Affiliation is not a measure of personal belief or observance. Original ranking edition is missing.
