Least Water Usage

Understand least water usage: what the measure counts, how to read it and where to check the source.

Water withdrawals measure water taken from a source, not necessarily water permanently lost. Some water returns to rivers or aquifers after use. Agriculture, industry and households have very different needs, and a country can withdraw much water because it produces irrigated crops. Water stress also depends on the supply available, which a withdrawal total alone cannot show.
