Least Amount of Trees

Understand least amount of trees: what the measure counts, how to read it and where to check the source.

Tree numbers and forest area describe different features of a landscape. A plantation, a sparse woodland and a dense tropical forest can cover similar areas while containing very different numbers of trees. Tree-count estimates often combine samples with models rather than counting every tree. Changes in the estimate can therefore reflect improved mapping as well as changes on the ground.
