Understand largest displaced population: what the measure counts, how to read it and where to check the source.
Displacement statistics separate refugees abroad from people displaced within their own country. They may also distinguish displacement caused by conflict from displacement caused by disasters. A count of new movements over a year can count repeated movement, while a year-end population is a stock. Combining these categories without checking definitions can double-count people.
