Life satisfaction asks people to evaluate their lives. It differs from a measure of yesterday's mood, income or health, although these can be related. Survey averages conceal the spread of responses within a country. Small differences between neighbouring ranks should be read with sampling uncertainty in mind rather than treated as a decisive national gap.
