Highest Life Expectancy

Understand highest life expectancy: what the measure counts, how to read it and where to check the source.

Life expectancy at birth summarises mortality rates observed across ages during a period. It is not a prediction of the exact lifespan of babies born that year. Improvements in infant survival and in older-age health can both raise it. A national average also conceals inequalities between regions and population groups.
