Fastest Trains
Understand fastest trains: what the measure counts, how to read it and where to check the source.
A train's speed record, its maximum service speed and its average journey speed are different numbers. Stops, track restrictions and timetables shape what passengers experience. High-speed route length is another measure again: route kilometres and track kilometres are not interchangeable when multiple tracks run along one corridor.
About the data
Fastest needs operating speed versus test record defined; longest needs operating route-km versus track-km. The saved entries have no snapshot year or consistent definition.
